We Got Yellow!

This is merino. I don't know what brand of dye, but was told by the seller to soak the wool in vinegar water and then add dye that was dissolved in hot water. The spun yarn looks like it is fading or something. In the dye pot it was bright yellow. The yarn looks more like the middle of a deviled egg. Any suggestions?

Hi Angi. Several things could have gone wrong. It sounds like the dye rinsed out (did not strike well). You may not have used enough vinegar, the wool might not have been clean enough or wet enough or it may not have steamed long enough.

I have much better luck handpainting mine and then spraying with full strength vinegar. If you are dyeing the fiber in a pot, it should simmer at least 40 minutes, maybe even longer.
